What's Old is New: Denim 

I'm not sure about you, but this season's trends certainly have me questioning what year we're in. It seems styles that were trending years back are making a return - which also makes me regret donating certain pieces of clothing - but that's another story. 

From jean jackets (which were all the rage during my junior high years), to embroidered jeans, (I could have sworn I wore in high school) to chokers that give 2001 Britney Spears vibes, to high top sneakers; 90's fashion is here to stay - for now. 

In one phrase: everything old is new again. 

In this post, we cover denim. Of course jeans have been around forever, but this is not the first rodeo for embroidery, floral accents and cuffed pants, which were staples in the 90's. 

These Express embellished mid rise rose patch embellished ankle denim leggings ($52.80), from Express put a 2017 spin on the 90's trend. You can pair them with a tee shirt for a casual look or play up the floral accents with feminine touches, such as a pretty blouse and blazer. Another alternative is the almost always sold out racy lacy mid blue lace cut out skinny pair from Pink Boutique UK ($43.75). 

Denim jackets are back and are more embellished than ever. This distressed rose and tiger badge denim jacket (61.25) from Pretty Little Thing is a fun piece to add to your wardrobe. For a more polished look, this BlankNYC moto jacket at Nordstrom oozes vintage vibes and is perfect for spring. For the more classic gal, the Crafted by Lee Dreamsoft jacket ($34.99) at Target is the one for you. 

Gone are the days when choker necklaces were primarily worn to dress up an outfit. Today, they are seen paired with something as simple as a tank and shorts. Chokers come in different styles and shapes, depending on the look your going for. This denim blue alloy chain denim power embroidery choker necklace ($3.56) from Rosegal.com, is sure to turn heads. Forever 21 also offers dozens of choices, ranging from thin and simple to intricate styles. For a day to day look, this chain-link beaded choker ($4.90) is perfect, whether it's for the office or a lunch date. For the bold, this Be Good lace-up choker at LuLu's fashion lounge ($16), can spice up any outfit and serves as a statement piece to any look. 

Get to Know: Colorblock

This season it’s all about mixing and matching colors, whether they’re in the same family or even opposites.

Colorblocking adds an unexpected pop of color to any article of clothing, whether it is a dress, shirt or even trousers. 

Forever 21 has a vast array of color block outfits. This Crochet Colorblock Cami Ddress ($45) is perfect for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend and would look great paired with sandals for a casual look or heels for a night on the town. 

The trend can also spruce up a work outfit. This fire red (that’s the actual color name) and black ruched-sleeve Nine West blazer ($56.99) adds a twist to any office look. The sleeve length works well with the changing temperatures, for those days its warmer outside but colder in the office.

This color block pencil skirt ($39.99), available in emerald green/ black or space blue/black is super slimming. Since the side panels are black, the eyes draw automatically to the middle creating an illusion of a smaller waist. The skirt pairs perfectly with a black top or blazer to match the side panels.

You can create your own color blocking as well by pairing different colors together. For instance, if you have green pants, you can pair them with a yellow shirt for a pop of color. To take the trend even further, you can also add color through your accessories as well. The options are endless and up to you.

Trending: Spring Style

This season it's all about giving the cold shoulder - but not the one you're thinking of. 

Cold and off the shoulder pieces, (often called bardot), have been making a statement from the fashion runways to the streets. The trend especially grew popular during the fall and winter months and doesn't seem to be slowing down stopping anytime soon.

Pieces can be found almost anywhere from Forever21 to Fashion Nova and Macy's. The trend is versatile and works for the office with a pair of slacks or a pencil skirt and can be a fun piece with jeans for a casual look.

Whether it be in top, bottom or even bag form, eyelet, crochet and floral looks are also making a comeback this season. These trends look scream spring and summer and add a punch to any look. 

As if I had to mention, white jeans and cut offs are also back and better than ever. White jeans look super chic paired with a statement bag and/or pastel color shirt. For a polished look, pair a button down with white jeans and some great heels.
